Job Description: Welder/Machinist/Millwright 

Location: Perth 

Company: Roberts Fabrication and Machining Inc. 

Reports to: Project manager, Shop manager or Site Supervisor 

Hourly wage: $35-$42/Hour

Position Overview: 
Roberts Fabrication and Machining are seeking 3 skilled and detail-oriented welder/machinist/millwright technicians to join our fast paced team. Our shop is equipped with mature and knowledgeable trades people that are all likeminded and want to build quality products. In this role, you will be responsible for production welding, service & repair, prototype building, and fabrication. This position requires a proficiency in knowledge and use of fabrication techniques involved custom machinery and projects.   The ability to multi-task and move from job to job is a must.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to determine the required materials, parts, and processes. 

  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), and oxy-acetylene welding (OAW)  

  • Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment 

  • Perform metal working processes, including cutting, welding, drilling, grinding, and bending. 

  • Fabricate parts and components from various materials such as metals, plastics, and composites 

  • Repair parts of metal products by welding on extra layers 

  • Inspect finished parts for conformance to quality standards using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges. 

  • Troubleshoot and resolve any issues with machining equipment, tools, or processes. 

  • Ensure all safety protocols are followed, maintaining a clean and safe work environment. 

  • Collaborate with engineers and other team members to improve processes and product quality. 

  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and report any issues to the supervisor 

  • Document production activities, including work performed, materials used, and quality control checks. 

 

Qualifications/Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Red Seal certification in machining, welding, or a related field preferred. 

  • Proven experience in fabrication, machining, or a similar manufacturing environment. 

  • Strong knowledge of CNC programming and machine operation. 

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings. 

  • Ability to operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and machinery. 

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work. 

  • Ability to work independently or work closely with other team members to ensure timely and effective completion of tasks. 

  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues. 

  • Familiarity with safety standards and proper machine handling. 

Work conditions: 

  • Abilit to lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs. 

  • Travel off-site locations as work requires 

  • Manual dexterity required to use power and hand tools 

  • Frequently noisy environment  

  • Safety equipment required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/googles, etc. 

  • Work both indoors and outdoors 

  • Hazards associated with the trade 

  • May be exposed to construction sites
